Twin Centuries in Junior Ranks

Twin hundreds in the round vs Woodville were the highlights of a round that saw all junior sides post wins to start the season. Brad Miller (U16 White) found his way to 103* with his team narrowly missing an outright result. This followed Ethan Grzyb's 103 last weekend in the U14 Whites.

In the U16 Reds, skipper Ben Layton led the way with 50 to guide the team to a comfortable 6 wicket victory. The side took 20 wickets for the match, with Josiah Grzyb finishing with 6/33 and eight wickets for the match. The U14 Reds also posted a win with Josh Spall making a fifty and new Stingray Josh Hillier taking 4 wickets.

Next round we take on Kensington in what stands to be a good test.

Big Opening Day for Juniors

Congrats to U14 white opener Ethan Grzyb who kicked off the season with a bang yesterday, posting 103 runs against Woodville. He combined with partner And stingray debutant Joel Stidston for a 160 run opening stand. The side finished the day 6/217.

A great team effort saw the U14 reds roll the peckers for just 99 before knocking off half of those runs for the loss of one wicket. Braydon Gaitor led the way with three wickets in his SDCC debut.

The U16 whites stunned Woodville by taking all ten wickets for just 25 runs. Brad Miller finished with four wickets, well supported by Dillon Burns, Cooper Semple and Darcy Sharp. Miller then backed up his good work making 91* and leading the team to 6/190 and within reach of an outright result.

The U16 reds ripped out the Peckers for just 88 on a difficult wicket at St Claire. Connor Lock took 4 wickets with the support of Josiah Grzyb and Tyson Hughes who both took two wickets. Some excellent catching and disciplined bowling highlighted the innings. In reply the Young Stingrays are 4/64 with skipper Ben Layton 41no. Highlights of this game can be found on the link below.

U16 Trial Match Day 2 Summary

Day two of the trial match saw Team Bob chasing 189 from 70 overs for victory. Alex Hodge set the foundation for the innings with a well constructed 34 littered with aggressive running and some fine straight drives. He combined with Isaac Tierney to take Team Bob to 3/69 before he was caught short of his ground, well thrown out by Brody Trembath in the deep.

Isaac Tierney and Skipper Josiah Grzyb guided the team to a commanding 4-101 before Grzyb was unlucky to be run out backing up after a deflection from the bowler.

Two supporting partnerships with Bailey Williams and Matthew Bakker saw the team to 7/146, with Tierney in full control of the innings, before a flurry of late wickets saw the team bundled out for 164, with Tierney stranded on 81*.

Lachlan Ferguson was the pick of the bowlers with 2/31 from 13. Ferguson bowled with excellent control and pace, with batters battling to see off each of his spells. Dillon Burns also bowled economically (1/24 from 12). They were well supported by Lachlan Sharman (2/9), Ambrose Willoughby and Brody Trembath.

Whilst creating several good opportunities, the spinners once again found it difficult to find consistent areas on the O'Sullivan's beach hard wicket. In the match spinners took a collective 3/157 from 38 overs.

We return to the ground Saturday for a 1 day trial match before the season kicks off next Saturday.

U16 Trial Match Day 1 Summary

Our newest stingray recruits shone brightest today on day one of the two day internal trial. Batting first, Team A(be) put the opposition to the sword early, with Liam Hennessy and Lachlan Ferguson guiding the team to 100 for 2. Both batters dealt harshly with anything short or over pitched. Hennessy eventually fell just before lunch for an entertaining 63.

After a middle collapse which saw the team slump to 8-150, Encounter Bay's Dillon Burns made a dogged 34* with the help of Lachlan Sharman to see the team to a par score of 8-188 at close of 70 overs.

For Team B(ob) Josiah Grzyb, Tyson Hughes and Bailey Williams were the pick of the bowlers, well supported by Darcy Sharp and U14 Joel Chapman who both chipped in with key wickets.

Day two resumes
Wednesday at O'Sullivan's beach oval from 12:30pm.
