Teams for Round 4 vs West Torrens

Big round vs West Torrens coming up, two tough games where we will need to play our best cricket to get a win. Congrats to Daniel Bruce who's half century on the weekend has been rewarded with a C grade senior game. He joins Sam Philips and Josh Golding back in the seniors. Sahil Narayanan will make his senior debut in the D grade at Henley Beach high school after a match winning half century last round. Mitch Farquhar returns to the reds as an opener after 50 and 4 wickets last round. After 8 wickets in two matches, Tom Hynes was only kept out of a senior game by the return of Gary Putland for the senior team.

Tyson Levy makes his U16 debut after an excellent 68 for the U14 reds recently, and Quinn Thurtell will take the new ball for the U16 whites, up again from the U14 squad.

The teams in batting order are:

U16 Reds vs WT at O'Sullies No 1 (bring arvo tea)  be at ground 12:30pm for 1:30pm start

Mitchell Farquhar; Bryn Loots; Alex Cornelius (wk); Austin Zrim; Brody Trembath; Isaac Tierney; Tyson Levy; Ben Layton; Liam Hamilton; Warren Schutt; Josiah Gryzb; Tom Hynes

U16 White vs WT @ Jubilee Park be at ground 12:30pm for 1:30pm start

Michael Jordan; Lachlan Carr (wk); Brendan Day; Rory Hanson; David Unsworth; Ambrose Willoughby; William Greenshields; Brad Samarcq*; William Northill; Quinn Thurtell; Daniel Beckkett; Darcy Smith

*Brad is only available week 1, which will change the batting line up should we bat week 2.

A quick reminder that this weeks Melbourne Cup function has been moved a few weeks to coincide with our end of year Christmas break up. More info to follow. I will be at the whites game this week, Trevor Farquhar will be taking the Reds game day. I'm not a huge fan of playing 12 in the Reds, but while Ozzie is rehabilitating his finger injury, we will continue to rotate the unlucky 12th batter (as with the whites).

Good luck to everyone, lets have some match winning performances.

Junior Training Changes for Monday 12th & Tuesday 13th

Big couple of weeks coming up for the junior side of the club as the senior men have the bye. This weekend the juniors and women’s teams will be in action, and the Ray Sutton squad play their final round match (originally scheduled for Bice oval, it will now be played at Camden Oval in Glenelg).

Monday November 12th we will be hosting a scorers workshop commencing at 6pm in our Bice Oval clubrooms.

The workshop is an informal and informative way to learn to score or brush up on your scoring skills.  Eric Bain will  deliver a lively and helpful insight into the world of scoring. This year we are also fortunate to have James (Ned) Niederer, a former A grade umpire, attending the session to show the signals umpires use and to give advice on the requirements of a volunteer square let umpire.

If you are a keen scorer please come along and be a mentor, share your knowledge and offer support. We will supply all necessary resources and light refreshments will be provided on the night. Players, Parents, Family, Children are ALL WELCOME. Please RSVP to Tania Scott at sendittotania@gmail.com

Please note there will be NO U14 training on this night (Monday Nov 12th) because...

Tuesday November 13th we are hosting the Southern Fleurieu Country Cup squads for U12-U16. All juniors are invited to train this night, which will commence from 5pm and finish with a BBQ and the capping of the visiting players. There will be a combination of turf/hardwicket nets and fielding stations.

U16 Teams for Round 3 Vs ND

Firstly well done to the U16 Reds teams on the weekend, another disciplined performance. Bad luck to the U16 Whites who battled hard but just missed out. I am really pleased with the level of effort at training, and I have only had good reports about how both teams have been conducting themselves on game day.

We are announcing teams for this round early, as we will be asking a handful of families to travel North of the city for the second straight round.

As I'm sure you are aware, the senior bye presents an opportunity for junior qualified players representing the club at senior level to play against their peers for that round. I am, and always have been, an advocate of this and have actively sort this to happen over my previous 3 years as senior coach also. I am well aware of the arguments both for and against this selection policy, I acknowledge that not everyone will agree with this policy, and I am more than happy to speak privately with anyone seeking further clarification. I have included a brief snippet about the topic below taken from this weeks newsletter.

The teams are subject to change if injury or illness force changes, but as of Tuesday evening they are:

Under 16 Reds vs ND at O'Sullivan's Beach No 1
Alex Cornelius (Capt+wk); BrynLoots; Sam Philips; Daniel Bruce; Austin Zrim; Isaac Tierney; Brody Trembath; Ben Layton; Warren Schutt; Josh Golding; Tom Hynes; Josiah Gryzb

Under 16 Whites Vs ND at The Paddocks No 2
Michael Jordan; Sahil Narayanan; Brendan Day (Capt); Mitchell Farquhar; Rory Hanson; William Greenshields; Liam Hamilton; Ambrose Willoughby; David Unsworth; Lochlan Carr (wk); William Northill; Daniel Beckkett

I have spoken with players individually about their selection this week, and while some will be disappointed, I think it is important to remember that we are all representing the one club, opportunities are often born of change and circumstance, and I know that all of our players will respond to the challenges the game offers for this round.

Several players have missed training or spent reduced time at practice due to school commitments recently. Please know that the club completely supports this, nothing happening in cricket is more important than our players educations, and we only ask that as with injury or illness, that you keep us updated when attendance is an issue.

Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Kind Regards,

Abe

Senior Bye and Junior selection

The senior bye provides an opportunity for junior qualified players representing the club at senior level, to be selected to play against their peers for a round.

As a club we encourage players (who we consider ready) to get out of their comfort zone and get a taste of the challenges the game presents at the next level.

We have several players at both U14 and U16 level who this applies to, and we feel it is still important to provide opportunities for these players to compete against their peers either during the senior bye, carnival squads such as the U17 BankSA Shield, Ray Sutton, or other competitions.

We will have players “dropping back” into both U14 and U16 teams this week, and we hope that they will bring the experience and work ethic gained at the higher levels into their teams and personal performance this weekend.

Winter Update

Dear Stingrays & Parents,

Welcome to season 2012/13 at the Southern District Stingrays!

As you may already know, I have been appointed as the Director of Junior Coaching at SDCC this season, and will be overseeing all junior programs. Tania Scott returns as the Junior Coordinator, and between the two of us, we will be responsible for the day to day running of junior cricket with the help of the appointed junior committees.

We will outlining our roles in more detail as the season approaches, but in a nutshell, I will be coaching the U16 program, including a match day role with the U16 Reds side. I will also have a skills coaching role with the U14 program & GPYCA (Gary Putland Youth Cricket Academy). I’m very excited to be given the chance to help develop our young cricketers.

Training for the GPYCA begins early July and is plays a vital role in identifying talented juniors in our region and delivering a strong foundation of cricket basics. From this program we select a squad for the Ray Sutton Tournament for primary school aged players. I’m pleased to announce that Eric Bain will be coaching the Ray Sutton program.

Training dates for our pre-season programs have not yet be finalised, but rest assured that there will be plenty of communication when we are ready to announce the schedule. We recognise that many players and families are involved in all manner of winter sports. Personally, I encourage all our players to be involved in sports and activities outside of cricket, and if any of our pre-season programs clash with these commitments, we just ask that you contact us and let us know.

A handful of juniors have been nominated to trial for SA High Performance Programs over the school holidays and we wish them well. A number of junior players have also been invited to attend the GPYCA as both mentors to the new squad, and to receive some individual coaching to help develop their own games.
If there are any players who do not have heavy winter sport commitments that would be interested in being involved in a supplementary skills training program prior to pre-season, I ask you to contact Tania. If we receive enough interest, we will be in touch again with details of how you can be involved.
Finally, I encourage all parents to start thinking about how you might like to be involved this season. From an on-field sense, I am looking for as much coaching support as I can muster. Any time that you could offer would be greatly appreciated and value add to our program. Whether you have experience as a past player, coach, or if you are just keen to learn and be involved, we would love to hear from you. We also need help with committees, scoring, umpiring, managing, dog walking, you name it! So please, if you can help, contact Tania.
We will be in touch soon with more info about the exciting initiatives we are planning.
Kind Regards,
Abe Moore
