Firstly well done to the U16 Reds teams on the weekend, another disciplined performance. Bad luck to the U16 Whites who battled hard but just missed out. I am really pleased with the level of effort at training, and I have only had good reports about how both teams have been conducting themselves on game day.
We are announcing teams for this round early, as we will be asking a handful of families to travel North of the city for the second straight round.
As I'm sure you are aware, the senior bye presents an opportunity for junior qualified players representing the club at senior level to play against their peers for that round. I am, and always have been, an advocate of this and have actively sort this to happen over my previous 3 years as senior coach also. I am well aware of the arguments both for and against this selection policy, I acknowledge that not everyone will agree with this policy, and I am more than happy to speak privately with anyone seeking further clarification. I have included a brief snippet about the topic below taken from this weeks newsletter.
The teams are subject to change if injury or illness force changes, but as of Tuesday evening they are:
Under 16 Reds vs ND at O'Sullivan's Beach No 1
Alex Cornelius (Capt+wk); BrynLoots; Sam Philips; Daniel Bruce; Austin Zrim; Isaac Tierney; Brody Trembath; Ben Layton; Warren Schutt; Josh Golding; Tom Hynes; Josiah Gryzb
Under 16 Whites Vs ND at The Paddocks No 2
Michael Jordan; Sahil Narayanan; Brendan Day (Capt); Mitchell Farquhar; Rory Hanson; William Greenshields; Liam Hamilton; Ambrose Willoughby; David Unsworth; Lochlan Carr (wk); William Northill; Daniel Beckkett
I have spoken with players individually about their selection this week, and while some will be disappointed, I think it is important to remember that we are all representing the one club, opportunities are often born of change and circumstance, and I know that all of our players will respond to the challenges the game offers for this round.
Several players have missed training or spent reduced time at practice due to school commitments recently. Please know that the club completely supports this, nothing happening in cricket is more important than our players educations, and we only ask that as with injury or illness, that you keep us updated when attendance is an issue.
Good luck to everyone this weekend.
Kind Regards,
Abe
Senior Bye and Junior selection
The senior bye provides an opportunity for junior qualified players representing the club at senior level, to be selected to play against their peers for a round.
As a club we encourage players (who we consider ready) to get out of their comfort zone and get a taste of the challenges the game presents at the next level.
We have several players at both U14 and U16 level who this applies to, and we feel it is still important to provide opportunities for these players to compete against their peers either during the senior bye, carnival squads such as the U17 BankSA Shield, Ray Sutton, or other competitions.
We will have players “dropping back” into both U14 and U16 teams this week, and we hope that they will bring the experience and work ethic gained at the higher levels into their teams and personal performance this weekend.
